Thu 29 Jun 2017 — Breaking news from the Connecticut Art Directors Club annual awards show held this past Thursday in Hartford: our 2017 SASD Graphic Design graduate Rose DeLeon won a Gold Award and a Judge’s Award for her senior theis Hablando Español: Modismos, and she won a Silver Award for “I Wish Someone Would Have Told Me…” the transparency book she made fall semester in Prof. Larned’s Studio V class. Rose’s book sold out at the SASD table at the Yale University Art Gallery Odds + Ends Art Book Fair in December!
Rose is shown above, with her shiny new Gold, Judge’s, and Silver CADC Awards.
Hablando Español Modisimos
CADC Competition Judge Rory Keohane said in choosing Rose’s book, “Rose DeLeon’s Hablando Español Modismos is a multi-layered exercise in communication. Idioms are inherently culturally obtuse, whose meanings are not predictable from the usual meanings of their individual words. As a self-initiated student project, it not only delivered a humorous visual language, but more importantly illustrated the types of challenges that can be solved by design.”
I Wish Someone Would’ve Told Me
Rose sends greetings from the winner’s circle —
“Thank you everyone! I can’t stress enough how thankful I am for attending UB and the support I had from everyone.
(I’m constantly advocating for UB and tell all the high schoolers from church that it’s an amazing university)
I also start my new job next week as Jr. creative director for GUESS inc. watches.
I’m extremely excited! I know I wouldn’t have reached this milestone, if it wasn’t for the help and advice of Professor Larned and Professor Munch.”
