A vital aspect of the SASD Graphic Design program is Design Service, a student-run graphic design studio located in Bauer Hall, a historic mansion newly restored by the Bauer Foundation on the grounds of the University of Bridgeport. Design Service joins the organizations in the Bauer Innovation Center, a center for student entrepreneurs and for growing small Connecticut businesses.
Design Service was established in 2010 by former Chair of Graphic Design Emily Larned. Now in the hands of Prof. Chercy Lott, Design Service is a sliding-scale, community-oriented graphic design studio serving greater Bridgeport. It is also a class for college credit. Every Monday and Wednesday from 9:30-12:00, junior and senior graphic design students meet with clients, analyze creative briefs, research projects, brainstorm ideas, critique work, make presentations, and engage in professional practice.
Design Service provides SASD students with invaluable real-world work experience, and the greater Bridgeport community with fresh, affordable, and accessible graphic design.
Design Service has designed identity systems, posters, packaging, publications, maps, brochures, postcards, t-shirts, invitations, programs, animations, social media campaigns, and websites for a wide variety of clients.
