Design students from Shintaro Akatsu School of Design (SASD) at the University of Bridgeport were the big winners when they were awarded all but one prize at the American Society of Interior Designers CT (ASID) Student Design Competition.
ASID CT invited design students to submit entries for two categories: Residential Design and Contract Design. In the Residential Design categories, students were asked to create interiors of living-room spaces and kitchens. In the Contract Design category, students were challenged to create restaurants.
Entries were judged by a panel of professional interior designers and architects. The First, Second, and Third Prizes were worth $750, $500, and $250, respectively.
In the Residential Design category, SASD students Margaret Swan won First Prize, Emily Cobbs won Second Prize, and Sawsan Khloudi came in third.
In Contract Design, SASD student Shelanda Pascal won the Second Prize and Kathy Rivera won the Third Prize.
“It’s a good competition; it was judged by professionals in the field, and the winning entries demonstrated the quality of design by SASD students,” said SASD Interior Design Chairman John Kandalaft.
